One Day at a Time.: In light of the "Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls" video....

str8nochaser:

I just have a question… its kinda been bugging me.

Ever since a certain co-host on The View had a proverbial meltdown about it…

What is with the need for some (read that, I said SOME) white folks to want to be able to use the term “nigger” or any variant thereof?

Like……

It’s because white people (blanket generalization ahoy!) are so used to not having rules of society cordon things off to them that they can’t believe something is “off-limits,” and also because there’s a lot of sticky stuff about nigger (and especially “nigga”) being “cool” and “black” and associated with cool things that are black, like hip-hop, that I’m not going to disentangle.

I like that we’re asking this rhetorical question, though! This strikes me as a pretty great way to start a conversation about privilege.
