– Miles Davis to Nancy Reagan at a White House dinner in 1987 after she’d inquired as to what he’d done with his life to merit an invitation. source (via marxisforbros)
Eh this is completely wrong. He was actually quite fond of the Reagans. It was at a White House dinner however. Here is what...
GRPN vs. BDNK (Or: The Battle Between My Fat, Pale... →
fek:
I had been decent—not great, but good enough—about going to the gym regularly prior to this. I guess if you weren’t me and knew this, this would kind of be like insider trading on my ass, but thankfully, $BDNK isn’t subject to SEC regulatory law. So there’s that.
Have been waiting a while for today, when I finally got to post this. Good times. Also, uh, dark ones.
Oh.

– Jeffrey Toobin in the New Yorker, on Attorney General Eric Holder’s chance at a real legacy by protecting the basic voting rights of Americans. (via thethirdshift)
I wrote a paper on (yeah, sorry, this is how it goes) the history of black voting rights this past semester, and I learned or...

“I changed the standard for the entire industry.”
“We had a big wang.”
Both of these statements are verbatim, and at least 99% true.

What am I doing right now?
If you guessed “sitting on the floor of my mother’s bedroom, looking up at a computer screen at a desk, and using her computer to work an SB Nation newsroom shift because my laptop picked today, OF FUCKING ALL FUCKING DAYS, to croak”: Congrats!
EDIT: Laptop now working. Origin and nature of issue still unclear. Other show, correspondingly, suspended in the air.

Signs I Should Be Asleep
I just yelled “FUCK YOU” at a recruit in a video game who has not committed to play for me yet despite his little interest meter being basically full and no other school being anywhere near me in the competition for him.
I also did a Christoph Waltz “OOOOH” at another recruit who did commit unexpectedly.

But hey, at least a generation of Wired readers have a new favorite comedian now.

But really, I fundamentally do not understand a point of view that would leave “Super Bass” out of the top five songs of the year. When the word pop was coined, “Super Bass” was waiting patiently through ages unborn to fulfill it.
How fun!

This isn’t even funny. Ignorant ass suburban white kids who think they’re too “misunderstood” to fit in with social norms and some god damn manners. No respect. Wearing Wu-Tang shirts, listening to Waka, making videos with a fisheye and terrorizing bookstores and superstores doesn’t make you cool. Won’t be laughin’ when all you’ll ever be able to get is a petty retail job.

I was many, many sheets to the wind last night (spoiler alert: taking shots of all of the liquor in your apartment in an effort to blow a higher number on a Breathalyzer will, indeed, get you drunk) but I a) vomited nearly everything up before even going to bed, because I was responsible enough to do that b) remember everything, even pulling the $17 out of my pocket and putting it on our table to...
Black Beans Blogue: Songs Complex Missed on the 50... →
blackbeans:
Complex put together a pretty good list of the 50 Best Miami Rap Songs, continuing a pretty good series where they have already profiles cities like New Orleans and Chicago.
Scott is essential reading on anything Miami rap, and I also want to add that I have loved Black Dada’s “Round Round” in silence for too long.
One of my roommates is getting engaged to a woman who is a few years older than him that he has known for about six months tonight.
The other one, who has the laugh I imagine Beavis and Butthead would have if they were from the South and perpetually stoned, is making dinner while on the phone.
The third one gave me info that I could have reported for the biggest scoop of my journalistic career.

This is my favorite year-end list I’ve seen so far, probably because it’s so pop/rap-heavy. If that floats your particular boat, give it a shot.
